Message from one of the Caregivers that attended the course:
“Thank you ever so much for arranging the Basic First Aid course. I really appreciated it. I feel so much more confident to deal with an emergency now. Clare the St.Johns tutor was lovely. Being an active St.John person she had many real life stories to share which helped a great deal in our understanding of various scenarios."

National Carers Conference 2009 |
The National Carers Conference, was held at Auckland’s Waipuna Events Centre on the 24 & 25th September, Mr John Keys praised the “vital difference” such carers bring to the lives of those they assist and to the wider community.
The two-day gathering is the country’s only dedicated national conference of its type, bringing together health professionals, policymakers and those involved personally in day-to-day caregiving.
Mr Key said that family care would be a relevant issue at some point in the lives of most New Zealanders. Although, he added, too many of those giving the care seldom receive recognition for their role — a problem his government has been working to rectify.
He said the Government knows that making sure carers have support and recognition is an investment for the future, and that carers will become more important as the population ages.
In his statement, Mr Key gave an assurance that his government is committed to supporting carers, saying they are a vital part of New Zealand’s communities and health workforce.
“Many of them are our unsung heroes.”
